The “Jupiter Symphony” in C major, KV 551, is the last Mozart symphony – his 41st. It was also composed in the summer of1788. Today this symphony, especially the finale – is considered one of the best symphonies in history. Due to the breath-taking finale, it is sometimes called “Symphony with Final Fugue”. It was Mozart’s fate that he would not experience a performance during his lifetime – or know how the Jupiter Symphony and many other Mozart symphonies rose like stars into the heavens of music.
